When we are young, it is great to have a brother or sister to play with and to lean on when life gets tough. As we grow older and begin to lead our own separate lives, it is easy to grow apart from our childhood best friend. National Siblings Day is the perfect excuse to remind your brother or sister you may not see or talk to often that you care by sending them a box of gourmet cookies. Two ways to you love and care for them
Our relationship with our siblings is one of the most enduring and long-lasting relationships we will have in our lives. Aside from our parents, they are our first friends and support system. Our siblings really have a huge impact on our lives. That is why, as a relationship expert, I believe it is important to take care of our relationship with our siblings. We should find ways to show them that we love and care for them.
Here are some ways to show your siblings that you love and care for them:
- Do an activity they enjoy doing. Whether it is watching a movie or playing some games, find time to do an activity with your sibling that they enjoy.
- Help them in any way you can. Make your siblings feel that they can count on you by making an effort to help them.
Send gift or prepare their favourite
Siblings are the first best friends you’ll ever have. As a relationship expert, [I know] that when siblings grow up, they [go] separate ways not communicating with each other often. However, they are still your siblings, and you still care about them. Celebrating National Siblings Day might rekindle your relationships with each other. Here are some things you can do to show them you care:
1. Send them a gift. What is a better way to show your siblings you care than sending them things they need? Know the things which make their lives easier and send some to them.
2. Do some tasks which they usually do. Driving for them or sending them food to spare them from cooking might be little gestures, but they are very effective in showing you care. Spare them from the responsibilities for a day or two, so they can rest and make time for themselves.

Sending them messages
As you grow older, you get more nostalgic about the past. In my case, I have rich memories with my siblings. We grew up really close and formed a strong bond. I may not often talk with them now, but I make sure that I remember important dates and occasions. I never miss calling them on their birthdays to send my well-wishes and remind them how happy I am that we are siblings.
We are all busy now, but it only takes a few minutes to message them. I make sure to check on them once in a while. I am proactive in offering support. Out of nowhere, I ask if they need anything repaired at home or maybe a new household must-have. Also, I never miss a family gathering. If they invite me to come over for dinner or lunch, I make it a priority. If we cross paths somewhere, I show them I am more than happy to see them. Also, I do not shy away from hugging them, even in public places.
Personalized gifts are always a good way to go.
They’re cheap, and they come from the heart, so to speak. A customized mug won’t cost you that much, nor will a personalized shirt. It’s a good way to say, “I appreciate you,” even if you don’t get to talk often. Bigger props if you made it yourself. It sends them a message that you care about them by putting in that effort.

Giving them special gifts
Siblings are one of the best things in life to have. However, some of us have siblings that we don’t talk to often, but you both know that you care for each other. Personally speaking, I always make sure that my siblings feel that I care for them. For me, the best way to express your love to your siblings is by giving them special gifts. Simple household equipment can make them feel that you actually care for them.
Social media
It’s great that we live in an age where the world is a lot smaller, thanks to social media. It’s easier to connect with people and show them that you care.
Social media is also a good way to show appreciation for your siblings on National Siblings Day. Even just posting a photo of yourselves in your younger years will bring the nostalgia everyone loves. It’s something your siblings will greatly appreciate, even if you don’t talk often.

Invite them to go out
It’s a great feeling to have siblings who are with you since childhood. However, as time goes by, it’s hard to communicate with them daily. They have their own families to watch out for, and some are busy with their jobs.
[Invite] them to go out with you. Have coffee with your siblings. Treat them to meals and to watch your favorite movies. These [activities] will give you a chance to talk to them and is the opportunity to thank them for being the best sibling in the world.
Listening to your siblings’ recent achievements
Contrary to what some people think, showing people that you care about them doesn’t always have to be grand or expensive. However, it does need to come from the heart. Putting effort into making time, catching up, and listening to your siblings’ problems and recent achievements is one of the best ways you can make your [feelings] known to them. You can also try taking a trip down memory lane and reminisce. You can hang out by watching shows and playing favorite games, or cooking your favorite desserts. Sometimes, the most effective way of showing your siblings [you care] is by working and putting effort into strengthening your communication with sincerity.
