valentines heart cookie gift

February 14th is fast approaching, and even though you promised yourself this year would be different, you are still scrambling to find a gift for your significant other. What will it be this year? A greeting card or a romantic collage…again? Or will you venture further down the list of the 10 most popular Valentine’s Day gifts and swing for jewelry, a box of chocolates, a fancy dinner, or, hear us out, flowers? Real original!

This is your year to burst free from the unimaginative masses. Each person’s love story is unique and deserves a present that can rise to the occasion. Instead of a boring box of chocolates, give a Valentine’s Day cookie box full of your partner’s favorite flavors.

Why Do We Give Valentine’s Day Gifts Anyway?

Let’s travel back to Rome in the year 270 CE. Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men because he believed having a family made for worse soldiers. The so-called crime was punishable by imprisonment or even death. One priest named St. Valentine disagreed with the Emperor’s decree. He continued to ordain marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Emperor Claudius discovered this insurrection, he condemned St. Valentine to death. While imprisoned, St. Valentine healed a child of his blindness before he was killed. Valentine also signed a letter, “From your Valentine,” a saying we still use today.

Interestingly enough, on the same day that the first St. Valentine was executed, a bishop by the same name was also martyred. There are many rumors that this bishop was the man the holiday was named after, but no one can say for sure.

Now for a little more history. In ancient Rome, February 13-15th was a festival called Lupercalia. Lupercalia was a celebration of fertility and love. Through the years, it slowly became a Pagan celebration and was outlawed by the Catholic church for being “un-Christian.” As a replacement, Pope Gelasius instated Valentine’s Day on February 14th.

It wasn’t until the Middle Ages that the holiday caught on. Poets like Shakespeare and Chaucer romanticized the holiday, and it quickly spread across Europe. People would make homemade cards to deliver to their loved ones. Sound familiar?

Flash forward to the 1900s, and the celebration of love became commercialized. Hallmark began mass-producing greeting cards, lovers began buying expensive jewelry for their significant other, and schools started doing candy exchanges. The rest is history.

Why Cookies for Valentine’s Day?

Prior to reading this article, cookies may not have been at the top of your list when finding a Valentine’s Day gift. We believe that should change. Here’s why:

  • Valentine’s Day cookies are cheaper than jewelry. Showing your special someone you love them doesn’t mean you have to break the bank. There’s no need to drop hundreds of dollars on a jeweled heart necklace your wife will wear once. Instead, save some dough and buy a fun, original, customized cookie gift box.
  • Cookies will satiate your special someone’s sweet tooth. If your partner is anything like us, they have a need for all things sweet, and we mean a need. This year, boxed chocolates are out, and Valentine’s Day cookie boxes are in. All the cool kids are buying them!
  • You can customize your order. If your significant other has a penchant for chocolate and fruit, it doesn’t have to be a one-or-the-other situation. Unlike boxes of chocolate, when you order cookies, you can choose what comes in the order. Give your partner a box full of all their favorite flavors; don’t settle for anything less than perfection.
  • Cookies are the perfect solution for your impossible-to-buy-for loved one. You can only plug “perfect gift for wife” or “gift my boyfriend will actually want” into your search engine so many times. They don’t want a new shirt, they don’t want new cufflinks, and they especially don’t want socks. So, now you’re at an impasse. That’s where cookies come in. Have you ever met anyone that doesn’t like cookies? Didn’t think so. You can carefully craft a box of cookies specifically for your significant other. Maybe that looks like 12 Valentine’s Day chocolate chip cookies. Maybe it looks like 12 heart-shaped sugar cookies with red and pink sprinkles. Or maybe it looks like an assortment of flavors. Whatever the flavor arrangement, we know that your special someone will love every bite.
  • Unlike other desserts, cookies are compact perfection. Cake, for example, has no defined endpoint. On the other hand, cookies are bite-sized and will satisfy your loved one’s sweet tooth without ruining their appetite.

What Kind of Cookies Should You Order for Valentine’s Day?

So you’ve decided on cookies for your Valentine’s Day Delivery (great choice, by the way), but now you need to know which cookies to get. Honestly, this one is all about knowing your person. Do they like chocolate? Are they into the classics like oatmeal raisin or sugar or snickerdoodle? Do they want something light and tart, like a lemon cookie? Are they peanut butter fiends? Find a cookie company that has everything your partner desires.

But, though taste is essential, do be mindful of appearance. If you want something that screams Valentine’s Day, you might want that perfect heart-shaped sugar cookie.

And a quick PSA: make sure to watch out for any allergies or intolerances your significant other may have. Cookies often contain three major allergens, dairy, eggs, and wheat, and depending on the kind of cookie, they may contain peanuts or tree nuts. Keep that in mind as you build your Valentine’s Day cookie boxes.

Who to Send Valentine’s Day Cookie Boxes To?

Sure, Valentine’s Day is for lovers. But it goes beyond that. Have you ever heard of Galentine’s Day or Pal-entines Day (guy-themed Galentine’s Day)? Whether eating from a charcuterie board with the girls or feasting on some burgers with the guys, cookies are the perfect addition to any Valentine’s Day celebration.

And let’s remember our teachers, friends, and neighbors. They deserve some love too, don’t you think? Cookies are a sweet way to show you care and appreciate all they do for you.

Why Buy Valentine’s Day Cookies When You Can Bake Them Yourself?

Homemaking cookies is a possibility, sure. But for a holiday as memorable as Valentine’s Day, here’s why you want to leave it to the baking professionals.

Avoid the baking variables. Cookie companies have spent years perfecting their recipes. Baking requires exactness, and that level of perfection is difficult to obtain at home. Did you know that overmixing your dough leads to hard cookies? Or that you need to keep tabs on your leavening agents so they don’t get stale and leave you with flat cookies? Did you know that the cooking time changes with the type of pan you use? There are a lot of variables when you bake at home. If you don’t master all of them, you risk delivering a gift that isn’t up to snuff.

Save yourself some time. When you have cookies delivered, you don’t have to step foot in the kitchen. Seriously, not even a toe. You can order your cookies from your office at work or your comfy couch at home. You only need two opposable thumbs and a device that can connect to the internet. And if you choose the right company, your cookies will taste homemade anyway… just without the hours spent laboring in the kitchen. That’s a win if you ask us. Spend the time you gain writing a killer Valentine’s poem.

Skip the inevitable burnt batch. When you order cookies vs. baking them yourself, there will be no burnt cookies. Did you hear that? Absolutely no burnt cookies! We all know the experience of opening the oven excited to see the cookies we made, only to discover they’ve been burnt to a crisp. That right there is the definition of tragic. This Valentine’s Day, fill the air with love, not smoke.

Ingredients add up. Say your special someone loves chocolate, peanut butter, mint, oatmeal, and lemon cookies. If you want to bake them a variety of their favorites, you’ll be buying a lot of different ingredients. And you can’t just bake one cookie. So the likelihood of your being able to send them 12 different flavors is very low.

Lucky for you, bakeries are always fully stocked with almost every cookie ingredient under the sun. They have all the stuff needed to make all of your loved one’s favorites.

Skip the shipping stress. If you’re far away from the person you love and want to send some home-baked goodness, you’ll have to deal with the brutal post office lines. No one has enough time to wait in lines that rival Disneyland’s.

Plus, when it comes to shipping, cookie companies know how to keep the goods fresh. The good ones will double-seal their cookies to prevent any air from affecting them. Your show of love should be fresh upon arrival. You want everything to be perfect, and the pros are well-equipped to help you master it.

What To Write on the Card of Valentine’s Day Cookie Box?

The perfect addition to your Valentine’s Day cookie package is a note telling your significant other how much you love them. Many cookie delivery services will let you personalize your card. Here are some of our favorite cookie-themed lines for the win:

  • We go together like cookies and milk.
  • I love you more than cookies… that’s saying a lot!
  • We are a batch made in heaven.
  • You never fail to chip in when asked.
  • I like cookies, but I would rather have you.
  • You bake my day every day.
  • You’re like cookies in my oven. I need to take you out!
  • Without you, I would crumble.

Sappy? Maybe. Irresistible? Absolutely.

How to Pick the Best Bakery for Valentine’s Day Cookies

Your loved one deserves the best, so here’s how to choose the best cookie company.

  • Find a company that prioritizes good ingredients. When some companies grow, they try to skimp on ingredients to save some cash. That’s a no-go. Cookies are best made with butter, not oil, and cane sugar, not corn syrup. Your significant other is anything but sub-par, so don’t settle for less-than-great ingredients.
  • Look for companies that use state-of-the-art technology. Getting the best cookies means buying from cookie companies that use top-of-the-line tech. The best bakeries use temperature-controlled ovens designed specifically for cookies. Using these ovens ensures that cookies come out delectable every time.
  • Check the flavors the cookie company offers. Everyone has specific tastes, and those should be catered to. Find a company that provides everything your partner loves so you can make this Valentine’s Day the best one yet!
  • Look for well-presented cookies. We eat with our eyes, so it’s important to find a company that values that. Maybe that looks like finding a company that decorates cookies specifically for Valentine’s or one that packages their cookies in beautiful boxes. Whatever the presentation, make sure it’s worthy of your significant other.
  • Find a company that prioritizes packaging for freshness. Cookies and air don’t mix, so look for bakeries that double-seal their cookies in airtight packaging. When your Valentine’s Day cookies arrive, they should taste like they did the minute they came out of the oven.

How Many Valentine’s Day Cookies to Buy?

Generally speaking, one person eats two or three cookies. But your partner deserves more than just two or three cookies. They deserve at least a dozen. At least! C’mon, it’s Valentine’s Day. And really, you can never have too many cookies. With cookies, you can share ’em, freeze ’em—or eat ’em all in one sitting. We aren’t judging!
