Father’s Day is a wonderful time to pay tribute to our dads and everything they have done for us. While it is always best to celebrate together, it is not always possible. With a bit of ingenuity and help from technology, you can still help Dad feel your love and gratitude. We couldn’t think of anything that would beat fresh-baked cookies delivered to his doorstep, so here are some more tips from our readers for making your father feel special even though you may be apart.

Simultaneous BBQ Grilling Parties

When I was living outside the country for work, I had a surprise party cooked up by my sons. They prepared for a grill party in our house and also asked my friend to prepare for a grill party in our apartment during that time. So, even though we had time differences, we were still able to do Father’s Day grill parties through Skype. What’s really funny is that they made sure that we are cooking the same thing, so it really feels that we are together even though we are miles apart. Thank God for technologies like this. Even though people are away from each other, they can celebrate together.

Celebrate Our Superheroes

As a relationship expert, I strongly believe that you can show your love for someone no matter what the situation. When you are in a long-distance relationship with your family and celebrating an occasion together is impossible, technology and other online services [can] help you through. Now that Father’s day is coming, here are some tips on how to celebrate our own superheroes:

Schedule a Video Call
Make sure that all your family members are present in the virtual meeting so you can all chat together and share memories you have with your father.

Send Him a Gift
You can give him a surprise gift in the form of his favorite thing or favorite food with the help of online apps.

Write Personal Cards
This never grows old and is more touching than all the others. Writing [a card] on your own and sending it to them can make them feel a touch of home.

Father’s Day Celebration Tips for When Dad is Far Away

Take a Visual Walk down Memory Lane: This is a super fun way to honor dad. Ask each person to share a favorite photo or souvenir of memory with dad during a family Zoom party.

Watch a Movie or Netflix Series Together Virtually: Whether it’s a movie or TV show that Dad has been dying to watch or one of his old favorites, you can host a fun watch party online. Check out Amazon Prime and Netflix if you buy or rent a movie from them. There are other services that offer it for a small fee.

Play a Game: There are many apps to allow you to play fun games together virtually. House Party is one of our favorites. Gather some fun prizes you can send virtually (electronic gift cards etc.) Or you can host a trivia night with fun facts about Dad and discover who knows him best.

Create a Signature Cocktail or Have a Beer Tasting: Hire a mixologist to teach everyone to make their own signature drink to enjoy together during your happy hour or game night or take an online mixology class together. Bring in a brewmaster for a beer tasting (Ship the beer in advance.)

Cooking Can Be Fun: Is Dad a foodie, then take an online cooking class together and enjoy cooking and dining together.

All I want is you!

I have a father, but I have my own family now. As a father of two boys, I want to celebrate Father’s Day with them. If [my father and I] celebrate Father’s Day far away from each other, I am thinking of creating a short video clip while cooking my father’s favorite dish, [which] is my tip to those people who also enjoy cooking for their loved ones. They can celebrate Father’s Day by having a video call and sharing the video clip that you have created. You should plan ahead how the food will be delivered or will get to your father’s house. If not the actual food you have cooked, then try to order food for your father.

Enlist the Help of Others to Make Dad Feel Special

Distance shouldn’t be a hindrance in making someone feel special. Love of a father is the first love you receive and making him special on Father’s Day is the best way to reciprocate the love he has given you. If you are far from each other, do these things:

1. Ask someone to kidnap him and pamper him for a whole day and treat him [to some] well-deserved relaxation. Make sure to inform everyone in the household about your plan.

2. Send a greeting through his favorite television show. Get in touch with the producers of that show to help you with your plan. It might be difficult, yes, but your dad will feel extra special.
