Eat Dark Chocolate Without Feeling Guilty

I love dark chocolate because I don’t feel guilty about eating it. Dark chocolate is rich in flavonoids, a type of antioxidant that helps protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals which can keep skin looking younger! In addition, dark chocolate is rich in minerals such as iron, magnesium, zinc, copper, and phosphorus, which may help support immunity, improve bone and teeth health, and contribute to better sleep quality. Some studies also suggest that consuming dark chocolate may lower the risk of heart disease, reduce inflammation, support the gut microbiome, and improve brain function and mood.

Dark Chocolate – From Sweet to Bitter

As a kid, I loved white chocolate – the look, the smell, and the rich sugary taste!

But as I’ve aged, I’ve started to cut sugar from my diet to the point where milk and white chocolate just taste like a spoonful of sugar.

As a result, I switched over to dark chocolate and I have never looked back! It has a much richer taste and it’s even better when paired with nuts, caramel or even chili. The bitter taste only accentuates any added flavor. As an added benefit, dark chocolate also boosts my energy, similar to coffee or tea.

Dark Chocolate – Chocolate That Is Good For Diets

As Ana and Elsa say in the movie Frozen, “Mmmmm….chocolate.” I must say, I feel the same way. I’m not sure why I like chocolate so much. It could be the sweetness, the richness, or maybe it was my mother who frequently preached that chocolate was good. Whatever the reason, I know chocolate is a staple in my diet.

Though my favorite type of chocolate is milk chocolate, if I had to choose between white and dark chocolate, I would choose dark. White chocolate certainly has many amazing qualities. It’s smooth, sweet, and tasty. But the white variety doesn’t seem to hit the mark if I am craving chocolate. On the other hand, dark chocolate has a more intense, stronger, richer flavor. Plus, if I am counting my calories, I can purchase dark chocolate with a higher percentage of cocoa. These chocolates generally have fewer calories. The downside is the less sugar, the lower the sweetness.

White Chocolate – Health Is Not A Deciding Factor

When given the choice of white or dark chocolate, I’ll choose white chocolate every time. I much prefer the sweeter and creamier taste of white chocolate to the bitter aftertaste of most dark chocolates. When faced with a variety box, the dark chocolate is always the last to go when I’m around, usually taking me days to get around to finishing it off. I know that dark chocolate is meant to be healthier, but when I’m eating chocolate, my health is not a deciding factor.
