Next comes deciding on a theme and color scheme for your wedding. Then there are plenty of other factors and decisions you need to make when your big day arrives. But, of these, the most delicious decision you make will be what dessert you serve at your wedding.

Many couples stick with the traditional wedding dessert—the wedding cake. But, there are people who are not fans of cake or who want more than one option for their guests. If you fall into one of these categories, this article is for you.

Below you will find some yummy ideas for bringing sweetness to your big day in an unusual but rewarding way.

1. Cookies

We admit it–we’re a little partial to gourmet cookies. But we’re not alone. In fact, we’re seeing more and more people opt for cookies instead of cake for their chosen wedding dessert.

Here are some great dessert ideas that incorporate the beloved cookie:

  • Cookie Bar– Having a table with a delectable cookie assortment is something dreams are made of. A cookie bar offers variety for the eyes and the tastebuds. You might consider having milk on hand because we all know it’s a bit of heresy to eat a cookie without milk.
  • Cookies Sandwiches– Cookie sandwiches are exactly as the name implies- two cookies with some type of filling sandwiched between them. The filling could include frosting, whipped cream, or ice cream.
  • Brownies– Yes, brownies are technically a type of cookie. Brownies are both delicious and simple. They can be eaten plain or with toppings.

2. Ice Cream

Ice cream is a fun alternative to cake or the perfect complement to your wedding cake. Ice cream is an ideal dessert for any time of year, especially when it is warm outside. Some ice cream dessert ideas are:

  • Ice Cream Cones- Simple yet delicious traditional ice cream cones are a hit at any event, weddings included. You could include several ice cream flavor options and even dipped cones to spice things up even more.
  • Sundae Bar– Another fun ice cream idea is a sundae bar. The possibilities are endless with so many topping options such as syrups, fruit, and candy.
  • Floats– Combining ice cream and soda is a refreshing, delicious choice that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, especially on a hot summer day.

3. Waffles

Waffles aren’t only for breakfast anymore; they have also become a popular dessert choice. Waffles can be topped with fruit, ice cream, whipped topping, frosting, pudding, etc.

For your wedding, you could choose to serve waffles in the standard size and shape, or you can get more creative. You can make mini waffles, similar to cookies, with added ingredients such as chocolate chips. Waffles can be stacked on top of each other with filling inside or even be rolled into a cone.

4. Chocolate Fountain

A fountain made of chocolate may be one of the greatest food inventions ever. After cookies, of course. A chocolate fountain not only provides for a delicious dessert, but it will also make a stunning addition to your decor.

There are so many great options that you can provide for your guests to dip into the chocolate fountain. Some favorites include:

  • Pretzels
  • Marshmallows
  • Candy
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Cookies
  • Rice Crispy Treats

5. Pie

Pie is an American tradition but surprisingly isn’t very common at weddings. But, if you love pie, why not make that your wedding dessert? Now, you just have to decide which flavors of pie, whether fruit, cream, or a mixture of both.

Here are a few different options for serving pie at your wedding:

  • Hand Pies
  • Mini Pies
  • Traditional Slices of Pie

6. Candy Station

Having a self-serve candy station will have your guests filling like kids again. You can get glass jars of all different shapes and sizes, then fill them with your and your partner’s favorite candies. You can have individual bags or boxes for your guests to fill.

A well-planned candy station is both aesthetically pleasing and a delicious addition to your special day.

Guests can enjoy candy while at your reception, or they can take it home for later. A candy station will be a hit for guests, both young and old.

7. Other Pastries

While many of the dessert choices we have mentioned could technically be considered pastries, we wanted to include a few more pastry options to replace or accent your wedding cake.

  • Tarts or Tartlets
  • Churros
  • Donuts
  • Eclairs
  • Cinnamon Rolls
  • Crepes

As you can see, your wedding dessert doesn’t have to be limited to cake. We went over some great options, but the list could go on and on. The most important thing is to choose something that makes you happy.

Choosing a dessert should be one of the least stressful parts of wedding planning. If all else fails, just serve all of the desserts we mentioned. Just kidding. Sort of.
